About Dr. Yu-Kuen Lai:

Dr. Yu-Kuen Lai is an associate professor of electrical engineering at Chung-Yuan Christian University in Chung-Li, Taiwan. He received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from North Carolina State University at Raleigh in 1997 and 2006, respectively. Prior to the Ph. D study in CESR lab at NCSU, He worked as a senior design engineer at Delta Networks and Applied Micro Circuit Corp. (AMCC) at Research Triangle Park from 1997 to 2002. He was involved in several projects including ASIC chip design on Media Access Controller (MAC) for Gigabit Ethernet switch and packet over SONET systems. During his Ph.D. study, he worked as a senior ASIC design intern at Qimonda NA, and Internet Specific Integrated Circuits Corporation (ISIC) at Cary, North Carolina. He was involved with network processor chip design for search engine in routers assisting packet flow classification.

 Dr. Lai received the CYCU Distinguished Teaching Award in 2011. His research interests include software defined networking, network processor architecture, streaming data processing, FPGA systems design and computer network security. He is a senior member of IEEE and currently serves as the Electronic Communication officer for IEEE Taipei section.

Research Interests:

Computer Network Systems and Architecture including Network Processors, Digital FPGA Systems Design and Computer Network Security

Dr. Lai's primary research has been in the area of high-performance networking systems and architectures. He is interested in performance evaluation and architecture exploration of network processors on emerging network applications. Other areas of interest include computer architecture, streaming data processing,  FPGA systems design, and computer network security.
